In 2003 serval neighbors and community partners sat down to develop a plan for Wealthy Heights, a forgotten corner of our neighborhood. The project included connecting streets, renovating homes, and building new houses and bringing it together under a Community Land Trust model. Once the mortgage crisis hit and property values dove, the land trust model was no longer viable. Our project partner Dwelling Place looked at a diversified approach including partnering with area foundations and Habitat of Humanity. The first phase of street construction and infill housing began in 2012 with the remaining work to be completed in 2013, ten years after those first meetings.
