Smart Street Program
Consumer's Energy designated East Hills as it first official SmartStreet® program area. In 2011, SmartStreet® offered a sneak peek at emerging opportunities for saving energy, saving money and improving the environment. The year-long pilot project previewed the ways Consumers Energy is preparing to meet growing energy demand with renewable energy resources and greater energy efficiency.
SmartStreet® installed smart meters at approximately 60 homes and commercial properties in East Hills. These participants received an energy audit and energy-efficient lighting. Using web portals and home energy display units, participants tracked and actively controlled their energy usage in near real time.
A plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging station was installed at the Center of The Universe. A solar generator demonstration was installed on the roof of The Green Well. The project continues the "green" legacy that East Hills has built over the past decade.
